Man suffers life-threatening injuries in assault

Detectives investigating incident that took place near St. Paul Street and James Street

Police say a man suffered life-threatening injuries in an assault in the early morning hours Sunday in downtown St. Catharines.

At approximately 12:03 a.m., 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service attended St. Paul Street and James Street regarding a disturbance.

Police say an altercation occurred inside an establishment with an unknown number of males assaulting a victim and it continued outside the establishment.

Niagara EMS attended and assessed the victim who was transported to an out-of-region hospital with life threatening injuries, police said in a news release.

The Forensic Services Unit attended and processed the scene.

Anyone (residents or businesses) in the area where the assault occurred with closed circuit security cameras, doorbell video cameras, or dash cameras are asked to review their footage for the period between midnight and 12:30 a.m. on March 24.
