Justin O’Donnell is a candidate for Ward Two Councillor in the Town of Pelham. His reason for throwing his hat into the ring was simple. He is a communicator, and he knows the ability to speak clearly, concisely, and knowledgeably is the key to being a successful municipal politician.
Justin was awarded the Distinguished Toastmaster Award by Toastmasters International on October 2. This is the highest award any member of Toastmasters International can receive.  He feels that earning this award makes him well qualified to be an effective Councillor and to effective participate in debate and discussions at Council meetings
To receive this award, O’Donnell had to take on a variety of leadership roles within the organization. He feels that the skills and experiences he’s had in these leadership roles will make him an outstanding Councillor for Ward 2.
According to O’Donnell, “There is a parallel between the way he’s worked his way through the Toastmasters Leadership roles and the path he’s gone through in various community organizations.”
He is active Fair Vote Canada, and the Knights of Columbus. He understands international trade and has been a member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Canada for many years.  He has the skills needed for the leadership role he is currently seeking.
Toastmasters International is an educational organization that teaches members how to improve both their communication and leadership skills.  O’Donnell, who is a member of both Rose City Toastmasters and Lakeshore In-Depth Advanced Toastmasters clubs, has been working on this prestigious award for nearly ten years.
O’Donnell feels that he has developed the listening skills that are essential for a Town Councillor. He will always put the concerns of his constituents first.
He will formally receive his award on November 7th at the District 86 Toastmasters Fall Conference in London, Ontario.
