“We had our own sale before Lynn McCarthy started the weekend tour,” Sue Kicul said. “We thought it would be nice to match up with theirs so we all help each other out over the weekend.”
Coinciding with Partridge in a Pear Tree and the Country Christmas Store in Fenwick, the event featured 21 vendors who were quick to lend a hand for the library fundraiser.
With a bake table, one-of-a-kind gifts and a little Christmas spirit, Kicul says the event continues to be a success.
“They’ve all chipped in paying for a table and each of them provided an item for our door prize,” volunteer Sandee Matthews said of the record high 21 vendors. “We thought it was a good thing for the community to have extra things to do over the holiday season and the community really came out and supported us.”
Friends of Maple Acres Library began fundraising efforts for the local library almost 21 years ago, and continue to provide improvements, such as a new roof and new books, for the Fenwick branch.
Matthews was not only grateful for the community support, but also of the local fire department, who donated the Fenwick Station for their set-up of the Country Christmas Collection. What use to take place in individual homes, now has a large facility to accommodate so many vendors.
“We’ve been lucky enough to have lots of interest and support from the vendors, firefighters and shoppers to keep an event like this going,” Matthews said. "It makes for a great weekend of shopping local and supporting the library.”
Donations received from this years event will go towards the building. For more information regarding upcoming library events, visit www.pelhamlibrary.on.ca.
