A team of seventeen from Pelham Community Church will fly to Managua on March 13 for quite the adventure.
As Fair Trade Service Learners, they will be partnering with Companeros in Nicaragua to learn more about the global community and more about the equitable distribution of resources, goods and services.
While in Nicaragua, they will build three houses for families chosen by their local community to receive improved housing.  In addition, they will assist with an educational mural at Las Quinchos School.  The team includes some professional people who will offer educational workshops to teachers.
The profit from the recent Trivia Night fundraiser will be used in Nicaragua to purchase needed school supplies.  Purchasing the items there, will inject money into the local economy as well as provide familiar materials for students.
For over a year the team has been preparing for this ten day mission of service, by attending weekly Spanish lessons in addition to their fund-raising efforts.
The group of seventeen, led by Karla Morgan-Ward, includes both adults and youth from six families from Pelham Community Church as well as a cousin from Lively, Ontario.
The generosity and support of Boston Pizza, Vander Hoeven Greenhouses, Antipastos, Sobeys, E. L.Crossley Secondary School, Fenwick Lions Club, Volcano Pizzeria, and Shriner’s Creek Kettle Popcorn are appreciated and have been important to the successful fundraising efforts.
