At approximately 2:20 a.m. on Friday, April 3rd, two local teens were struck by a car along the north boulevard on Canboro Road between Church Hill and Haist Street. The vehicle then fled the scene.

The teens were with a group of friends outside of a small house party on Canboro Road between Haist Street and Church Hill. The vehicle, heading westbound, left the road and struck one of the teens, a 17 year old female, throwing her several meters. The other victim, an 18 year old male, was struck in the arm when he tried to pull the girl to safety.

The driver of the vehicle continued without stopping to render assistance, provide their name, or report the accident. The following morning, a good Samaritan located the vehicle, a 2005 Toyota Solara, in the parking lot of an apartment building at the corner of Canboro Road and Balfour Street in Fenwick. Following an investigation, police charged a 41-year-old Pelham resident with failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing bodily harm.

The female had to be transferred from Niagara Health Systems to Hamilton Health Sciences McMaster Site. A family member told the Voice that as of Monday evening she was in serious but stable condition, however, doctors will not know anything more about her long term prognosis until her swelling goes down. The male victim was treated for minor injuries on the scene, and released.

The investigation is ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at (905) 688-4111, extension 5500.
