PJ Coholan was formally inducted into the Fenwick Lions Club on Wednesday, April 3. He had attended a couple meetings prior to that and was able to get a feel for the club, the atmosphere and the projects that the Lions are working on. He was originally invited to a dinner meeting by his friend, Brian Fader, who is also a relatively new member.

Initially, PJ was reluctant to attend a meeting. When Brian pressed him on it, he learned that he had somewhat of a stereotypical view of Lions Clubs. PJ had recently turned 46 and thought Lions was more of an “old boys club”. He’d rather be involved with younger people and those closer to his own age. When he did attend his first meeting, he was surprised to find that a large portion of the club is in fact in his age group with a couple of younger members in their early 30s.

PJ works at London Agricultural Commodities (LAC) in Port Colborne. He’s responsible for shipping and receiving where he weighs and loads corn, soy, wheat and oats onto rail cars for distribution and export. His wife is a kindergarten teacher and they have two daughters. Both girls play on different soccer target teams. Between his work, his children’s sport schedule and personal life, he’s a pretty busy guy. Yet, he still made the decision to join the Fenwick Lions Club.

When asked why, he replied, “Well, there are a few reasons. The first is that I believe we should all do our part to leave the world a better place than how we found it. And the best way to do that is with a team that’s working to do that. Secondly, my household contains a high concentration of estrogen and it’s nice to get out of the house and just hang out with the guys a couple times a month. This club is fun. We get things done and we have fun doing it.”
