String of break-ins leads to several charges

On April 20, 2024 at 7:10 p.m., 6 District (Port Colborne/Wainfleet) uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a report of a break and enter to a seasonal residence in Wainfleet.

Officers attended the area of Rathfon Road and Lakeshore Road and determined several seasonal residences had been broken into and property stolen. At 9:10 p.m., officers received information regarding a suspicious person in the area of Highway 3 and Rathfon Road. Officers attended the area and located an individual charging an e-bike. Investigation determined this individual was still in possession of the items stolen from the seasonal homes and the e-bike battery died while attempting to flee the scene. This individual was then arrested.

Christopher Airhardt (41 years) of Port Colborne has been arrested and charged with the criminal offence of:

  • Break and Enter (three counts)
  • Possession of Stolen Property Under $5,000 (two counts)
  • Possession of Break and Enter Instruments

Airhardt was held in custody for a video bail hearing at the John Sopinka Courthouse in Hamilton on April 21, 2024.
