Two accused of stealing steel cable in Welland

Police allege the pair cut approximately 70 feet of insulted steel cable after climbing on the roof of an outbuilding

On Monday, April 29, 2024, at approximately 5:09am, officers attended the area of Centre Street and Harold Avenue, in the City of Welland in response to a theft in progress.

Investigation revealed that at approximately 3:15am, two male suspects attended the west side of the property and used a ladder to climb over the fencing to gain access.  Once on the property, the suspects climbed on the roof of an outbuilding and proceeded to cut approximately 70ft of insulted steel cable. Officers were able to locate the suspects and place them under arrest.

Sean Steele (44 years old) of no fixed address was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Theft Under $5000
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Michael Huggins (50 years old) of Wainfleet, was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Theft Under $5000
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Huggins and Steele were held in custody pending a bail hearing that was expected to take place on April 30, 2024.
